Only seeing the cute Giant Panda is fun, but doesn't seem to be as memorable and meaningful as do dome volunteering works to same this endangered species of Giant Panda. So why not take a day to stay longer with the pandas, besides you can help to do many volunteering works, including clean enclosure, preparing bamboos, etc. So far, the Dujiangyan Panda Base is one of the few places in China where you can do the volunteering works. It is only about one hour's driving from Chengdu city. Please note the panda feeding session is no longer available.
Book NowLeave Chengdu at 7:30 AM or earlier, drive to Dujiangyan Panda Base from Chengdu. The Panda Volunteer Program starts at 9:00am, and it finishes at around 14:30-15:00
Brief Process of Panda Volunteer Program:
1. Sign up at the Panda Base office. (Signing contract with the Base then you will get a volunteering tag and working suit and gloves.) Panda Keepers will give you a basic briefing of today’s program including a time schedule.
2. A panda keeper in the base will lead you to take a minibus to one of the panda enclosures in the base and start the volunteer work.
3. Work includes:
You will be instructed by a panda keeper. You can ask questions about the pandas including their habitat, dietary, etc. Activity schedule above is not fixed and can be in different sequence according to the panda.
After the work, a Panda Volunteer Certificate will be given to you. Say goodbye to the pandas! And drive back to Chengdu.
1. Dujiangyan Panda Park provides panda works for volunteer workers. Its mission is to raise money for panda protection and to give people knowledge about giant pandas to raise the awareness of protecting wild lives and nature. And it also provides opportunities for visitors/workers to have close experience with the lovely pandas.
2. It is actually a project rather than volunteer works.
3. Reservation has to be made at least 3 weeks before the final tour date. Please check availability with us before you make plans. From 2023 we have seen big raise on number of volunteer workers each day during summer time mainly in July and August. There are sometimes as many as over 200 volunteer workers in the panda base in one day, making the work/experience very crowded. We recommend you to avoid this season or to come by end of August and other seasons to do the volunteer work to avoid the crowd if possible..
4. If you need, we can also help to book hotels in Chengdu and arrange airport/train pick-up and drop-off and other tours around Chengdu.
5. You are recommended to wear waterproof shoes to do the volunteer work. Taking photos is not allowed by the panda base during your work.
6. Alternatively the panda volunteer work is also available in Wolong or Yaan Panda Base when the volunteer spots is full in Dujiangyan. The volunteer work in Wolong and Yaan is basically the same but will need to start earlier in the morning due to longer drive.
