Visit pandas at their natural hometown in Wolong. The panda base in Wolong is the biggest and newest one among all the panda bases in Sichuan. Wolong Panda Base is also the only panda base that is located in an actual panda sanctuary.

Everything you need to know before booking your panda adventure
All year round, but please be noted of the busy/possible crowded seasons:
• Summer (June-August): School Summer Vacation in China, super busy time;
• Chengdu Panda Breeding Center (All Year Round): Busy, Big crowds
• Hot temperature is less good: Pandas are less active in hot weather(late May to early Oct);
Tip: Morning visits (8:00-11:00 AM) will see pandas in more active mode.
No, panda hugging is no longer allowed since 2020. For panda health and safety reasons,
direct physical contact with pandas has been banned since 2020 at all bases in Sichuan.

Our recommendation: If you have time, visit Wolong or Chengdu base. If you don't like crowds at all, visit Wolong or Yaan Bifengxia Panda Base. If you want to combine with visits to Dujiangyan Irrigation park or if you want to do panda volunteer work then visit Dujiangyan Panda Park. Panda volunteering usually involves (variable due to the changing regulations from panda base):
• Cleaning enclosures (removing old bamboo, waste)
• Preparing food (carrying fresh bamboo, cutting to appropriate sizes)
• Making "panda cakes" (special nutritional biscuits)
• Observing (behavior monitoring)
• Maintaining facilities (minor repairs, painting)
Family-friendly? Yes! Children aged 8+ can participate in volunteer activities
under supervision. It's educational and creates lasting memories. However, some physical labor is involved
(carrying bamboo).
