Lixiao Road refers to the road between Lixian and Xiaojin between Bipenggou and Siguniang. It is a 70km long good road connecting two of the beautiful parks in west Sichuan and has very good views of highland mountains above 5000m and forest and river valleys. Lixiao Road has become a very popular place for domestic travelers and even international travelers. The famous golden foliage on Lixiao Road is a very popular view to see in autumn season.
Lixiao Road starts in Lixian near Bipenggou and ends by the road near Siguniang, connecting Lixian and Xiaojin and one can then do a circuit road trip from Chengdu driving to Bipenggou and then via Lixiao Road and then to Siguniang in 2-3 days time to appreciate the stunning views of Qionglaishan Range. Please view our sample itinerary of such trip. You are recommended to hire a car from Chengdu and do this circuit tour by driving since there are no public transport available on Lixian Road.
Please note Lixiao Road only opens from May to November. The rest of the year it will be closed due to heavy snow, icy road. Traveling in other seasons it’s not possible to drive on Lixiao Road through the tunnel and do a circuit trip from Bipeng to Siguniang. Sometimes you may still drive up to the tunnel but you can not drive through the tunnel.
The best golden foliage season is from mid October to early November. The mountains will be green from June to mid September. The mountains will possibly be in snow often in March, April, May.
Notes:
During holidays and even weekends Lixiao Road will be crowded. We recommend you to avoid holidays and weekends to travel to Lixiao Road so it’s less busy.
Some valleys may not be accessible during winter seasons from December to April due to wild fire hazard.
