Baoxing Dengchigou Panda Base Travel Guide

Baoxing Dengchigou Panda Base is a very small panda base located in Baoxing of Yaan and has total 6 pandas living there. By driving it takes around 4 hours to get there from Chengdu. Dengchigou Panda Base is open to the public all year round but normally no one goes there to see the pandas. This panda base is built at the village above Fengtongzhai, the place where the first panda was introduced to the world. Dengchigou Panda Base is at the elevation of 1900m, an elevation very close to actual panda living conditions. The 6 pandas are (in 2025) Le Sheng (25 y/o), Long Xin (25 y/o), Ying Mei (23 y/o), Xing Rui (16 y/o), Yue Yue (9 y/o), Shan Zhu (6 y/o).

How to Get to Dengchigou Panda Base

There is no public bus or other means of public transport to Dengchigou from Chengdu. The best way is to hire a car from Chengdu or from Yaan train station. The distance is almost 250km from the city of Chengdu and driving takes around total 4 hours.

Travel Season & Best Time to visit

All seasons are good seasons to visit pandas here by Dengchigou. No visitors are here even during busy seasons because it’s far and not famous and only 6 pandas live here. Although during raining seasons (June to August) the road can be affected by possible landslide.

Ticket Information

Entrance Ticket costs CNY30 per person. Open hour is between 08:30 to 17:00 each day. Feeding time is by 08:00 - 08:30 and 11:30 - 12:00, 14:00 - 14:30 each day. The ticket is bought on site by the entrance at Dengchigou Catholic Church, a church funded by a French Missionary, who also recorded as the person introduced panda to the world.
