Sichuan Mammal Tour - 14 Days

Day01 Arrive Chengdu

Arrive in Chengdu and be greeted by your guide at the airport. A briefing will be given to the group including gear check, itinerary check. You will check in to hotel in Chengdu city and have your free time to explore the city on your own.

Day02 Chengdu - Tangjiahe

Starting in the morning we will leave Chengdu and drive to Tangjiahe to our first stop in the core area of Minshan Range. We shall arrive by midday and have lunch before check in to the reserve of Tangjiahe. We shall have the full afternoon searching and watching and photographing wildlife inside Tangjiahe Nature Reserve. We will use our own car to drive in to the park and search along the way. Overnight stay is inside the reserve, providing us chance of more time on sighting and chance of night tour as well.

Note the overnight hotel is inside Tangjiahe Reserve that the restaurant is limited with choice and no shops available.

Day03 Tangjiahe

Today is full day sighting inside Tangjiahe Nature Reserve. Today we will continue the search along the main valley and if time allows we will go to the east valley for more chances of sighting. Walking of short distance on stairs is involved for today’s sighting. Night tour available.

Chances of sighting Sichuan Takin, Reeves Muntjac, Tibetan Macaque are high, chances of sighting Chinese Goral, Wild Boar, Leopard Cat, Masked Palm Civet are medium, chances of sighting Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys, Asiastic Black Bear, Yellow-throated Marten, Eurasian Otter, Hog-nosed Badger, Chinese Tuft Deer, Golden Pheasant are low, chances of sighting Giant Panda, Forest Musk Deer, Clouded Leopard are rare.

Day04 Tangjiahe - Jiuzhai

Today we will spend the full morning inside Tangjiahe Nature reserve to do more sighting. Then we will check out the park and have stop by Qingxi Town before drive to Jiuzhai in the afternoon. We shall arrive Jiuzhai in late afternoon. We will spend the night in the town of Jiuzhai.

Day05 Jiuzhai Golden Monkey Valley

Today is full day inside Jiuzhai Baihe Golden Monkey Valley for sighting of Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys. Today the activity involves walking on stairs for short distance but not strenuous. We shall have good chances and sufficient time of taking photos of Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys. We will spend the night at the same hotel.

Day06 Jiuzhai - Wawu

Today is mainly a driving day to cover the great distance between the nature reserves. We will have a more leisure start today after days of early start. We will drive for around total 600km to Mt. Wawu by the south of Qionglaishan Range. We shall arrive in late afternoon and check in hotel and rest.

Day07 Mt. Wawu

Early start and we will check in to the park of Mt. Wawu using cable cars to the summit directly and arrive in the morning before 10am. We shall spend the full day here on top of the forested “Roof Mountain” or “Table Mountain” mainly to sight and photograph Red Pandas. Chance of sighting red pandas is high. For bird lovers there are good chances of sighting the endemic parrotbills including Great Parrotbill, Brown Parrotbill, Grey-hooded Parrotbill, Three-toed Parrotbill along with other forest birds. After the tour we will go down the mountain and sleep by the same hotel for another night.

Day08 Wawu-Labahe

Today we will drive in the morning to Labahe and arrive by midday and search in Labahe Reserve after arrival. Labahe Nature Reserve is a main reserved area of nature in Qionglaishan Range and it is a big place. Long walking on stairs is involved but flexible.

We will stay overnight inside the reserve of Labahe for better use of time. Please note inside the park the restaurant is very limited and shops are also very limited.

Day09 Labahe

Today is full day inside Labahe. We will use cable car to search at higher part of Labahe by Jiaoshan Mountain. Note the walking is on paved stairs but can be hard due to high altitude above 3000m. There is a good chance of sighting Chinese Monal above the cable car. Chances of sighting Himalayan Griffon, Himalayan Blue Sheep are medium. Chance of sighting Tibetan Macaque, Red Panda, Samber Deer is high, chance of sighting of Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Sichuan Takin, Leopard Cat is medium, chance of sighting Black Bear, Golden Snub-nosed Monkey, Forest Musk Deer is low. Chance of sighting Giant Panda is rare but it has been spotted more than 1 time in April and May in 2025.

Day10 Labahe

Today is another full day sighting inside Labahe Nature Reserve. Today’s activity will aim to go to the Panda Trail and Red Rock Valley. Depending on the weather, today’s activity and yesterday’s activity are inter-changeable to increase chances of sighting.

Day11 Labahe - Yaan

We will spend another morning inside Labahe before drive to Yaan in the afternoon. After arrival we will drive off-road up the mountain and search for Giant Panda. We are not disclosing the name of the places in Yaan to avoid possible shutdown or over-crowds. We will spend 2-3 hours searching for Giant Panda before drive to check in to hotel.

Day12 Yaan

Today is a full day searching for Giant Panda. It involves driving, walking with short distance but hard and waiting and long time scanning. Patience is expected for today. Overnight by same hotel.

Day13 Yaan - Chengdu

Today we will have another morning search of Giant Panda before heading back to Chengdu in the afternoon. If there is no luck of Giant Panda at all we will have a chance to go with Giant Panda in the panda base in Yaan, a less-visited captive place for giant pandas. We shall arrive in Chengdu in late afternoon.

Day14 Chengdu Departure

You will be sent off to airport. Tour ends.
