Mount Siguniang Weather and Travel Season

The best travel season to Siguniang is from May to November. Due to its high elevation, summer is cool and winter is cold. It is generally considered dry at Mount Siguniang all year round even during the monsoon seasons. Raining season comes from June to September with the most rain in July normally. In spring there are usually snows with the highest probability of snow coming down in some weeks in March and April while the other weeks in Spring is dry and fine. In winter the weather calms down to low temperature and having more windy days.

Generally October to the next April, the weather is clear but cold, often with sunny days but cold and windy. From June to September come the raining season. As any other place at such elevation, in a day it is cool in the morning, hot at noon and usually blue sky, at evening it is cool and windy.

Best seasons to travel to Mt. Siguniang are June, August, September, October and November. August is the summer and has lower possibility of rains than July. Summer is not cas old as in autumn. October and November are dry and have better chance of good weather. November is colder though October will see more travelers. Second half of April, May, June July, September, December, January are also good travel time to Mount Siguniang. April may be cold and snowy. From late June and in July will have higher possibility of raining days; among which July is the warmest though. December and January are also good time to travel to Mount Siguniang due to higher chance of good visibility but it is cold. Higher places of snow-covered seasons are in March to May generally.

March to April are the snow-accumulating time and also the snow-melting of the year. Normally it will have lots of snow accumulated on the mountains, making the walking difficult or even impossible to access. October and November are the snow accumulating time of the year but it's normally much drier season than spring. All of these information are according to our former experience and not definite as in the mountains one is difficult to tell how the weather is going to be like. These are the sums made from former experiences we have.

Best: generally with the stable weather conditions and best scenery/views of the year for example in August it is all green and in Oct the mountains will turn golden. These seasons are often with sunny and clear days/good conditions for walking and photography, but may also be crowded.

Good: These seasons are with good views, normally with unstable or cold weather and climate, but rarely result into change of plan due to change of weather. These seasons are often less crowded and also very beautiful.

Okay: These seasons are also with good views but can be cold and have unstable weather may result into change of plan due to weather changes.

In terms of crowd, if you want to avoid the big crowds in Mt. Siguniang, which is getting busier and busier after the new road was completed, try to avoid the holidays in China including golden week at the first week of Oct and the Chinese New Year Holiday. Also July and August may also see many travelers around Siguniang as it is the school summer vacation in China. Weekends are also suggested being avoided if possible as Mt. Siguniang is only 4 hours’ drive away from the big city Chengdu. "
