It is required to apply for a permit to do Dafeng Summit (or Erfeng Summit of any multi-day trek) of Siguniang. It is required whether you are a foreigner or a Chinese citizen.
One needs to submit your passport information and your travel plan and dates to the park of Siguniang Outdoor Office. Most travel companies who organize Dafeng trips can do this for you. The office of Siguniang Outdoor Office does not accept individuals applying for such permit. All permits are given to travelers through local travel/trekking companies. Therefore you will need to use a travel company to do trips to Dafeng (or Erfeng or Changping to Bipeng Trek). .
Issue with limited Flexibility on Planning
When travelers signing up with tours provided by local companies, it is very convenient that the permits and paper works are often sorted out quickly and efficiently. Although the issue with trip planning is never solved. The issue is that there is zero flexibility of the trip provided by all local companies. All trips to Dafeng and Erfeng are standard 2 days from and back to the town of Siguniang(Rilong). It profits the most to local trek companies, guides and porters as well as the park of Siguniang as it maximize the number of visitors to Dafeng if you do it the quickest(in 2 days time). However it often raises the risk of hikers having AMS due to sudden raise of altitude from 3000m to 4300m in one day’s time.
Dafeng and Erfeng are open from 01 May to 31 October each year. The rest of the time is set to restore the nature of Siguniang and no one is allowed to do these treks. Although the open season may be longer in the future.
No. Self-supported/independent trek/climb to Dafeng (or Erfeng) or camping without a permit is not allowed by the park of Siguniang.
