Zoige and its surrounding areas including Gahai Lake, Awancang Wetland, wetlands of Black River and White River, Yellow River are one of the best places to watch birds in China. Its vast land and few human conditions have made these places perfect for birds and migrate birds. Plus its high altitude climate, as well as open views of grassland and mountains, many birds have made home here including vultures, eagles, ducks, geese, waders, pheasants, gulls and grebes.

The good locations to watch birds including the following places. Flower Lake is 50km from Zoige County. Gahai Lake is around 120km from Zoige, and 70km away from Flower Lake. Awancang is about 180km from Zoige Couty and 130km from Flower Lake.
The good bird-watching season is from June to July each year.
