Bawang Mountain

Bawang Mountain in Miyaluo is an unspoiled wilderness hidden deep in Western Sichuan. It earns the name “Bawang (Lord)” for its towering, imposing silhouette. Resembling Tibet’s Mount Kailash, it is known as Mini Kailash of Western Sichuan and Heart of Miyaluo. The biggest draw here is its undisturbed primitive scenery and the breathtaking view of snow-capped peaks mirrored alongside alpine lake.

Mt. Bawang

Location

Tucked deep inside Menggu Village, Miyaluo Town, Li County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It forms part of Miyaluo Nature Reserve. Approximately 250 km from Chengdu, around a 4-hour drive. After entering the mountains from Menggu Village, there are roughly 15 km of rough gravel and dirt roads, including water crossings. Off-road vehicles are strongly recommended. Elevation of the core scenic zone: around 3,600 metres.

Highlights

The signature highlight of Bawang Mountain is the combination of snow peaks and alpine lake. Its main summit, Bawang Peak (5,551 m), is capped with permanent snow. At its foot lies Yumeicuo, a high-altitude lake. On clear days, the still waters perfectly reflect the snow mountains and colourful forest, creating an exceptionally pure vista. Autumn (late October to early November in particular) brings the most stunning scenery. At the foot of the snow peaks stretches layered, vividly hued fall woodland, interwoven with red, yellow and green foliage, resembling a rich oil painting.

Accommodation & Supplies

Visitors may stay in Menggu Village at the mountain foot, or nearby Miyaluo Town and Gu’ergou Town. There are no supply shops in the mountain area. Please bring your own food and drinking water.
