Lixian is called Li County, a place north to the Siguniang Mountain Massif and in the heartland of Qionglaishan Range with dozens of mountains above 5000m and good places of ice climbing in winter. Good places of ice climbing in Lixian include Bipenggou, Liangtai Valley, Mengtun Valley, Lixiao Road. All the above ices in Lixian are located in the different valleys around Lixian. By driving from Chengdu it takes around 3-5 hours to get to the places.
Mengtun Valley has 3+ ice that are easily approached. Liangtai Valley with 1 ice with easy access and potentially more ice with longer approach. Lixiao Road will have road shutoff during winter time so most ice are not accessible except for the “First Quarter Noon” Ice. In some other valleys such as Puxi Village and Jjiesi Valley after the tunnel also have icefalls but with longer approach. Most ice are below WI4.






From mid/late December to the next mid February.
No permits and admissions are required to climb in the above listed places except some villagers may charge a small fee for entering.
Please be aware of the high altitude of above 300om of most of the ices in Lixian. If you can carry and go further to the valleys then you may have ice that haven’t been climbed and have the ice just for yourself.
