What to Expect

Learn how to use Ice Climbing Gears and Climb Ice

This will include detailed instructions on how to use helmet, harness, climbing boots and crampons. You will learn how to wear these gears by yourself and have chance to gear up as a climber. You will have a try of climbing ice on one of the icefalls in/near Siguniang and see if you'll like this mountain sport. This is a great experience to try out ice climbing while not commiting too much time and gears.

Low Temperature and High Altitude

Please expect low temperature between -10C and -15C in the early morning and night. During the day the temperature is between 0C and 8C. You are recommended to prepare sufficient warm keeping gears and clothing for this tour. The altitude in Siguniang is at above 3000m and by where we do ice climbing it is at around 3500m. We recommend you to acclimate by yourself elsewhere.

Possible Crowds

This is a group tour. We will be honest with you that often in such tour you’ll be climbing with other climbers and sometimes there could be many ropes on the same ice although all climbs will be safe. The chance of just you alone on the trip is rare. You’ll also share lodge and meal with other climbers. Full Itinerary

Day00 Arrive Mt. Siguniang

Arrive Siguniang the former day by yourself before 3pm and sign up by the Siguniang Authority Office. Drive to Shuangqiao (or Jiesi Valley depending on availability and accessibility) and check in to lodge. Then learn the gears after dinner. Note you'll need to arrive to Siguniang by yourself. Overnight altitude at 3200m by lodge.

Please note not every course/climb is lead by the listed instructor/guide but all guides will be run from this team.

Before Signing Up

a. There is basically no former experience required to do this trip. Anyone with medium fitness level and healthy and has been to over 3000m before can sign up this trip.
b. A healthy physical condition is required before sign up. You are not opt to sign up such trip if you have any major ailments, cardiovascular disease; heart cerebrovascular disease; cardio-cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, cardiac disease, etc, any former surgeries shall be made known to us. Consult your doctor before sign up for such trip.
c. Advice given by your guide is crucial. There are unpredictability in a climbing trip, signing up on such trip may expect minor changes of plan. Safety is the first priority under any circumstances. All mountain guides are working under safety guidelines in a climbing trip.
d. Please care nature and take your trash with you all the time, don’t harm plants and animals;
e. Please give care to the gears provided. Climbing gears are provided as well as personal climbing gears including harness, crampons and boots, helmet. Climbing boots size between 36-45 (EU) are provided for free. Any size smaller or bigger than these need to prepare boots by yourself. People with waistline over 90cm are not recommended to sign up this tour unless you can bring your own harness.
f. Climbing may not for full day but rather when it is cold and safe due to unreliable climate change, normally the timing is between 9am and 4pm;
