Mount Gongga

Mount Gongga is also called Minya Konka, Gonggashan. It is a 7556-meter high mountain in western Sichuan, the highest mountain in Sichuan Province and the easternmost 7000-er in the world. It is located in Daxue Shan Range in Hengduan Shan Range 300km west to the capital city of Chengdu and 20kms south to Kangding, the Tibetan frontier town.

Minya Konka means a big snow mountain located in the home of Minya Tibetans. One can get there by air from Chengdu to Kangding within an hour or one can use a bus from Chengdu to get there within one day.

The popular sites of Mount Gongga include Hailuogou Glacier Park, Yanzigou Valley. Mount Gongga is not a separated mountain. Around Mount Gongga there are several dozens of mountains over 5000 and 6000 meters including Mount Jiazi, Mount Edgar, etc. Its many mountains have attracted many climbers come here to make attempts.

Mount Gongga is also a favored destination by photographers. Many have tried to take great photos from different locations around Mount Gongga such as Yaha Pass, Tsemed Pass, Hailuogou Glacier Park and many other different locations.

Mount Gongga is a very good place to do a multi-day hiking trip. A hiking trip to Mount Gongga usually starts from Chengdu and takes around one week. It is a hard walking at high elevation.

Recommended length of visit: hours or days depending on what you do there. If you want to do some short hiking or visit, 2-3 hours, if you want to do a north-south standard hiking, 5-7 days.

It is open to visitors all year round.
