From Ganzi on, one can go further to visit Sertar Larung Gar Buddhist School, or westwards to Derge to Chola Mountains, or south to Yarchen Gar the biggest Nunnery in Tibet. Ganzi Monastery (also known as Kandze or Garzê Monastery) is a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in Ganzi County, Sichuan Province, China. It sits on a hilltop north of Garzê Town, offering a view of the town below the mountains of Kawalori and Gangga.
Gangga Range is located in Shalulishan Range in Hengduanshan in northwest of Sichuan Province on Tibetan Plateau. It is in the northern part of Shalulishan Range and southeast to the Chola Mountain Range. It is home to dozens of 5000+ meters unclimbed mountains.
Yarchen Gar is the biggest Tibetan non (Tibetan female Buddhists) shrine in China. Yarchen Gar is 800km west to Chengdu and 120km southwest to Ganzi Xian. It is home to over 20,000 nuns regularly. Yarchen Gar was built in 1985 and functioned as a Buddhist school.
This part of Sichuan is not of any famous status or of any big names. It is one of the places that fit “not known, but beautiful”. Thanks to the mountains around Ganzi that the good hiking is possible.
Kasa Lake is a big lake located 60km west to town of Luhuo, and 40km east to the town of Ganzi. It is by the drive way. Normally visitors stop here to take photos from the roads above.
Ganbai Road is believed to be a hidden gem of a road trip that connects Ganzi County and Baiyu County, with a total length of approximately 220 kilometers. It has been hyped as one of "China's most beautiful self-drive county roads."
Mount Kawalori, standing at 5,992 meters above sea level, it is the main peak of the Gongkala mountain range within the Hengduan Mountains system and the second-highest peak in the northern Kham region. Its summit is perpetually covered with snow and ice, with sparkling glaciers and undulating, majestic horn peaks that stretch far into the distance.
Xinlong Hongshan Park (official name: Xinlong Hongshan Tourist Scenic Area) is located in Xinlong neighboring Ganzi County near the Ganbai Road route and G317. It is a very unique high-altitude Danxia landform in western Sichuan that was only established in recent years, and its scenery is quite spectacular.
Beri Monastery (also known as Baili Monastery) is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect located in Ganzi Couty of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is not only an important religious and cultural heritage site but also a renowned patriotic education base due to its deep historical connection with the Long March of the Red Army.
Dajin Monastery (also known as Dargyä Monastery) is also located in Ganzi County of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is closely connected to the Beri Monastery—they are both monasteries among the "Thirteen Huo’er Monasteries" of the Gelugpa sect, they were also historically involved in the famous "Dabai Conflict" (the Dajin-Baili dispute).
Khangmar Monastery (also spelled Kongma Monastery) is located in Ganzi County of Garzê County, Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Along with Beri Monastery and Dajin Monastery, it is one of the "Thirteen Huo’er Monasteries," though it is smaller in scale and less well-known.
Luoge Liangzi (Luoge Ridge) is a road pass on G317 located near Ganzi County. It serves both as a scenic viewing platform of breathtaking natural beauty and as a historical site carrying significant "red army long march" revolutionary memories. It is also the border between Ganzi county and Luhuo county.
