From Chengdu to Kangding

By Air

There is an airport in Kandging. There are two scheduled flights to Kangding: one from Chengdu and another one from Chongqing. Both flights are in the morning. The flight takes about 1 hour to get to Kangding and a full price is around 1600 yuan per ticket. The flights are available all year round but it may cancel from November to the next April due to too much snow on the running lane. Kangding Airport is one of the highest airports in the world. From the window while you are flying you can see the big snow-covered massif of mountains of Gonggashan from the plane. By Bus

From Chengdu to Kangding by bus, there are plenty of scheduled buses from Xinnamen Bus Station everyday from 7:00 to 16:00. The bus ticket is around Chinese yuan 150 to 160 per person. It takes usually about 3-4 hours ride by bus from Chengdu to Kangding using the highway. Except Xinnanmen, you can also find buses from Chadianzi Bus Station as well as from Chengdu East Railway Bus Station to Kangding every day. The bus ticket you bought will have a seat number, you go with your seat number and it is good. Every bus will have seat belt now in China. It is an obligation to use it while in the bus. The bus will take the Chengya Motorway and all the way to Kangding. Normally if lunch time is within your driving time the driver will stop somewhere on the road at place for all passengers to have lunch. Normally these kinds of places will have a simple grocery selling water and stuff.

You will arrive in Kangding by its bus station at the east of the town. From there you can use a taxi to get to your hotel. There are also buses in Kangding you can use but be aware that the buses only run on the main roads and if your hotel is at small streets then you may consider to hire a car or to use a taxi. If you arrive by the airport of Kangding please note the city of Kangding is 45km away from the town and it usually takes around 1 hour or more to get to the town on mountain road with usually traffic jams.

By Shared Taxi

There is shared-taxi available in Chengdu to Kangding. You can find these taxis by Wuhousi Hengjie near Jinli Old Street. Normally it is an SUV or a van. It will normally cost you about 200 -400 yuan depends on the car.

Getting from Kangding back to Chengdu

By Bus

There are scheduled buses every day from Kangding Bus Station to Chengdu from 6:00 to 16:00. The ones (6 schedules) end in Xinnanmen Bus Station are from 9:00 to 16:00. Be aware of the arrival station in Chengdu, it can be Xinnamen Station, Chadianzi Station or Chengdu East Railway Bus Staiton. The ticket costs about 150 yuan to 160 yuan per person. It will also take about 3-4 hours by bus.

Getting from Kandging to Dacheng

There is one scheduled bus from Kangding to Daoheng every morning by 7:00 (During busy travel season there maybe two schedules). It costs 215 yuan per person and it takes about 7-8 hours to get there by bus. To take the bus you need to go to the Kangding Bus Station and when you arrive in Daocheng it is the Daocheng Bus Station. You can find local taxis by Daocheng Bus Station. You can also hire a car to Daocheng by Kangding Bus Station. The price will be around 1000-1600 per car depending on the type of car. There used to be a flight from Chengdu to Daocheng that will make a stop at Kangding but it is not available in certain seasons.

Getting from Kandging to Danba

There are 2-6 scheduled buses from Kangding to Danba everyday. Earliest one is at 8:00 in the morning and the latest one is at 16:00 in the afternoon. It takes about 3 hours to get to Danba from Kangding via Guzan. The ticket costs 80 yuan per person. The one in the afternoon may cancel due to inadequate passengers in less busy travel seasons. You will arrive in Danba at Danba Bus Station, from where you can use a taxi to your hotel. If you are staying in one of the Tibetan villages there try to contact your guesthouse host to arrange transfer for you. It maybe the best way of travel locally there in Danba. The local taxi in Danba are the white and green small vans and very easy to recognize.

Getting from Kandging to Mount Siguniang

To go to Mount Siguniang there is no direct bus from Kangding. You need to go to Danba first and from there you go further east to Mount Siguniang. Or you can hire a car to Go to Mount Siguniang and it is estimated to cost you about Chinese yuan 1600 or more for hiring a car to Mount Siguniang from Kandging.

Getting from Kandging to Mount Gongga

There is a bus between Moxi town and Kangding everyday. A more convenient way of travel to Moxi from Kangding is to use a local shared taxi. It will cost you about 200 yuan per person. Moxi is by the east of Mount Gonggashan and by the entrance of Hailuogou Glacier Park and Yanzigou Valley.

If you wish to go to Laoyulin of Gonggashan (the north entrance of Gonggashan Hiking), just hire a local car, it costs 200 yuan to get you to the starting point of hiking. It seems but the 10km ride is on very bumpy road.

To go to the west of Gonggashan the best way is to hire a car. It will cost you about 1000 yuan for a basic van. Although there is a scheduled bus from Kangding to Shade, a small village on half way to Gonggashan West at Shangmuju. This bus costs you 40 yuan per person and it takes about 3-4 hours to get to Shade. It is better to hire a local car from Shade because public bus is not available from there.

Getting from Kandging to Sertar

There is also a scheduled bus from Kangding to Sertar everyday in the morning by 9:00 at Kangding Bus Station. It takes about 6-7 hours to get to Sertar from Kangding. The ticket costs you 200 yuan per person. It will start by Kangding Bus Station and arrives in Sertar Bus Station. Sometimes this bus will be canceled due to different reasons so it is better to check with the bus station in Kangding first.

Getting from Kangding to Tagong

Getting from Kangding to Tagong there are buses you can use. One way is to use the one from Kangding to Sertar/Ganzixian/Daofu(Dawu)/Luhuo if it’s available and gets off at Tagong. Another one is to use the bus from Kangding to Bamei. There are two buses from Kangding Bus Station every day to Bamei by 7:00 in the morning. It takes about 3 hours to get to Bamei and the ticket costs about 50 yuan per person. You can get off the bus by Tagong on halfway. Another way of going to Tagong is to go to Xinduqiao first and from there go to Tagong. There are two buses from Kangding to Xinduqiao everyday: one at 6:00 in the morning and the other one at 15:00 in the afternoon. Ticket costs you 20 yuan and it normally takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Xinduqiao from Kangding by bus.

Although you can always hire a care from Kangding to Tagong, which will cost about 600 yuan.

Getting from Kandging to Leshan and Emeishan

There is currently no direct bus from Kangding to Emeishan. One may need to transit i Ya'an by different bus stations.

A bus from Kangding to Leshan is also available. It starts by 7:30 in the morning everyday from Kangding Bus Station and arrive in Leshan Bus Station. The ticket costs about 130 yuan per person and it takes 73-4 hours from Kangding.

Kangding to Leshan: at 07:30 at 125yuan

Kangding to Xichang: at 08:00 and 12:30, at 180yuan

Kangding to Jiulong Xian: 4 schedules at 07:30, 09:00,11:30 and 16:30, at 130yuan, will pass Xinduqiao, Shade (Gonggashan West)

Kangding to Daofu (Dawu): 4 schedules at 09:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00, at 100 yuan, will pass Xinduqiao, Tagong and Bamei

Kangding to Litang: 4 schedules every hours from 07:00 to 10:00, at 150yuan, will pass Xinduqiao

Kangding to Luhuo: 2 schedules at 08:30, 12:00, at 125yuan, will pass Xinduqiao, Tagong, Bamei and Dawu

Kangding to Batang: at 08:00 at 180yuan, will pass Xinduqiao, Litang
