Explore Tibetan Villages in Danba

Tibetan Villages are obviously the number one thing to see while traveling in Danba. There are two village groups available for visitors: Jiaju Tibetan Village and Zhonglu Tibetan Village. These villages boast for beautiful houses, beautiful women and unique, well-preserved life style.

Danba Tibetan Village

Jiaju, Zhonglu are the two representatives of the Tibetan villages in Danba. They are authentic and traditional Tibetan villages. People there work in the farm and orchards. Their houses are unique and beautiful. The villages are located on the sunny slope and composed of over decades of families. The village bends into the shape of the mountain side: some lower and some higher. Green orchards and colorful houses made the villages here very attractive. Jiaju Village is more popular because it has more houses in numbers whilst Zhonglu is more secluded as fewer travelers go there.

Jiaju Tibetan Village

Jiaju is the Tibetan name of a group of villages in this area. It is a must-see place while traveling to Danba. A short hiking in the Tibetan villages is one of the best ways to see the beautiful villages. The houses are with unique style and believed to be one of the wonders of Jiarong Tibetan people. The watchtowers are built at different locations of villages used formerly as the important watchtower for invading enemies. Walking through the orchards is truly a pleasant way of visiting here. Zhonglu Tibetan Village

Tibetans in Danba is called Jiarong Tibetans, which are a sub-group, or considered a unique group in Tibet. They kept a unique farming life style, quite different from the other Tibetans. Zhonglu is less touristed than jiaju yet its beauty is no less than Jiaju.Read More >>

Suopo Tibetan Village

Suopo Tibetan Village is located 4km southeast to the town of Danba. It is also considered to be the hometown of the ancient Dongnv Kindom. It is the most densed place where we can find watchtowers. A total of 175 watchtowers can be found here including a 600-year-old 13-angle tower. Danba is named “kingdom of one thousand watchtowers”. It is the best place to see Danba watchtowers. One can view the forest of watchtowers from the road across the road or either walks into the village to have a close look. The village is a fortress built at the mountains side by the villages. All the towers were built in stones. The history of these stone towers date back the earliest to about 2000 years ago. Local people say it is mainly a result of battles their ancestors had with other groups. The height of these watchtowers is from 10 meters to 30 meters. Read More >>
